I lead because we need more women’s voices in Lansing and more voices of people who have struggled and overcome obstacles to be successful in life. I lead because I believe that I have a responsibility to be an example for my own children in making a difference in the world. I lead because I care about the people in my community and our state and want to help create a state that works for everyone in our communities.
My mentors and my greatest examples of leadership have been my parents and grandparents. I was fortunate to be raised by strong women and men who respect and work with strong women. They instilled in me a strong work ethic, a drive to give back, and a willingness to give 100% to every endeavor. These values have led me well in my life.
Seeing women run for office in record numbers means that we are expanding the world for the young women and girls who will follow us to create a more just and equitable society. It means we have come so far in 100 years, from a time when women could not even vote, to a world where women can lead the conversation. I am honored to follow in the footsteps of the women who blazed these trails.
